Progettato per i momenti migliori Ci sono momenti in cui solo la musica è importante. Quando si vuole dimenticare il mondo e semplicemente perdersi nel suono. Il PM1 è stato realizzato per questi momenti. Compatto e discreto, ma con tecnologie mai introdotte prima in un modello Bowers & Wilkins, è un diffusore capace di un livello di prestazioni così elevato che tutto il resto sembra divenire improvvisamente insignificante. Suono reale. Nessuna distrazione. La scienza del perfezionamento Nella moderna progettazione la semplicità è una virtù. Non importa se si stia creando un super computer, una bicicletta o un diffusore: più semplice e meno complicato è il progetto, migliore può essere ogni singolo componente. Il PM1 è un esempio perfetto di questa filosofia. Per questo diffusore abbiamo ripreso il principio del mini-monitor perfezionandolo nella sua più pura essenza. Grazie alla semplicità intrinseca dei sistemi a due vie, siamo stati in grado di ripensare e migliorare praticamente ogni singolo elemento, dal mobile ai trasduttori ed al crossover. Così, se da un lato il progetto del PM1 può apparire molto semplice, dall’altro la straordinaria ricchezza e il dettaglio del suo suono lasciano intuire l’alto grado di perfezionamento raggiunto in ogni più piccolo particolare. Lo sviluppo del tweeter Il nostro obiettivo era di realizzare per il PM1 un tweeter caratterizzato da una frequenza di breakup sensibilmente più alta rispetto ai nostri modelli standard in alluminio. Eravamo fiduciosi che ciò avrebbe comportato un corrispondente miglioramento delle prestazioni. Ci piacerebbe molto poter utilizzare tweeter con cupola in diamante su ogni diffusore, considerate le loro straordinarie prestazioni, ma vi assicuriamo che il nuovo tweeter carbo/ceramico delle PM1 non ha nulla da invidiare al diamante, essendo il componente dal suono più morbido e dolce che abbiamo mai prodotto.Per ottenere un suono ricco in gamma bassa da un piccolo altoparlante è necessario disporre di buoni polmoni. E nel PM1 l’apparato respiratorio è uno dei migliori del settore, grazie a un elemento speciale, una tecnologia esclusiva Bowers & Wilkins che noi chiamiamo Flowport™. Il condotto Flowport aiuta infatti a regolare il flusso d’aria in entrata e in uscita dal diffusore. E lo fa riducendo al minimo quelle distorsioni che possono deteriorare le prestazioni. Le minuscole fossette che ricoprono la superficie interna del condotto, simili a quelle delle palline da golf, riducono le turbolenze create dal passaggio dell’aria al suo interno minimizzando quel fastidioso rumore simile ad un soffio. Con il Flowport l’aria è libera di scorre in modo fluido e silenzioso ed i bassi risultano più corposi. Il crossover Le prestazioni di un altoparlante sono tanto migliori quanto più è puro il segnale che riceve. Il segreto è quello di mantenere ogni cosa la più semplice possibile: un crossover inutilmente elaborato rischia di intaccare parte dell’integrità del segnale inviato dall’amplificatore. Grazie alla concezione minimalista del due vie PM1, siamo stati in grado di impiegare il più semplice dei crossover possibili, utilizzando anche alcuni dei componenti di altissima qualità che si ritrovano nei nostri modelli di maggior prestigio della Serie 800 Diamond, come i pregiati condensatori Mundorf M-Cap Supreme Oil dove l’aggiunta di olio aiuta a ridurre la microfonicità, ovvero la tendenza a trasformare ogni vibrazione in deboli segnali elettrici che si sovrappongono a quello principale. Solido come una roccia La validità di ogni mobile per diffusori è data dalla sua robustezza e rigidità. L’obiettivo è quello di creare una strutturacompletamente inerte per annullare anche il minimo accenno di vibrazioni che possono causare risonanze e colorare il suono. In un progetto perfettamente ottimizzato come quello del PM1, un adeguato sistema di rinforzi interni al mobile diviene ancora più importante. Sollevando il PM1 ci si rende subito conto di essere di fronte ad un diffusore di una solidità rassicurante. Ciò che appare meno evidente è l’architettura interna che lo rende tale. Proprio come nel modelli della nostra gamma di maggior prestigio, la Serie 800 Diamond, il PM1 utilizza l’esclusivo sistema di rinforzi interni Matrix, composto da pannelli uniti tra loro ad incastro e quindi alle pareti interne del mobile che apportano un considerevole irrigidimento alla struttura. Tutto ciò che si ascolta proviene quindi dagli altoparlanti, non dal mobile che li contiene.Prestazioni a tutto tondo Quando si osservano i diffusori di punta che compongono la Serie 800 Diamond, ciò che colpisce immediatamente è la forma sinuosa della “testa” che ospita i trasduttori delle vie medio-alte. Il pannello frontale del PM1 richiama quelle forme ondeggianti per una ben precisa ragione: evitare dannose diffrazioni e disperdere uniformemente il suono attorno al diffusore, così da contribuire a creare una solida immagine tridimensionale. Assieme al posizionamento del tweeter sulla parte superiore del mobile, ciò riduce in modo significativo l’area che circonda il trasduttore e produce una maggior profondità della scena acustica estendendo l’area d’ascolto ottimale. Anche la scelta dei materiali contribuisce a rendere inerte il mobile, fattore vitale in un diffusore di dimensioni compatte. Per il frontale è stata quindi utilizzata la stessa resina sintetica arricchita con sostanze minerali utilizzata per le teste dei nostri diffusori di maggior prestigio. Le prestazioni che ne risultano sono assolutamente straordinarie, in particolare quando si tratta di riprodurre il timbro della voce con il massimo della naturalezza.

Questo l’incipit che introduce la quinta generazione della Serie 800, la 800 Series Diamond, la più avanzata di tutte per tecnologia e soluzioni formali che, dopo sei anni di ricerca, porta B&W più vicino ancora alla massima ambizione del suo fondatore John Bowers: “creare un trasduttore che nulla aggiunga o sottragga al segnale originale”.La Serie 800 è stata, e rappresenta tutt’oggi, la gamma di acustiche di alto livello più importante di risonanza internazionale. Progettata per l’ascolto domestico, si è dimostrata qualitativamente così valida da essere richiesta dagli studi di registrazione e mastering più importanti al mondo, come monitor di controllo del materiale sonoro originale: gli Abbey Road Studios a Londra e la Skywalker Sound in California, adottano entrambi acustiche Bowers & Wilkins Serie 800.I tangibili vantaggi prestazionali offerti dall’insuperato, quanto celebre, tweeter con cupola in diamante B&W, sono ora estesi anche al modello più piccolo della gamma, l’805, ora Diamond a tutti gli effetti, disponibilità che non mancherà di far felici tanti appassionati di palato fino.Ulteriori affinamenti sono stati profusi nelle aree critiche della riproduzione acustica, con un sensibile balzo in avanti per qualità audio complessiva, rispetto alle Serie 800 precedenti. Il gruppo magnetico del tweeter in diamante è di nuovo progetto ed è denominato “quad-magnet”, con un miglioramento nell’efficienza e nella dinamica delle alte frequenze. Nuovo anche il materiale per la sospensione anulare, che aiuta le caratteristiche di dispersione, fornendo un’immagine stereofonica più stabile ed aperta. All’altro estremo della scala tonale, miglioramenti anche per la gamma bassa, grazie all’adozione di un nuovo motore magnetico, di tipo duale, che si avvale della potenza del neodimio e della stabilità della ferrite. Questo innovativo progetto migliora linearità e il comportamento meccanico del driver, riducendo la distorsione armonica ed evitando i surriscaldamenti tipici del neodimio.Sono poi stati apportati altri, più sottili, ma non meno importanti dettagli, i quali, combinati assieme, rendono i diffusori acustici B&W qualcosa di veramente speciale.I terminali ed i ponticelli d’ingresso sono in rame oxygen-free, così da mantenere al livello più alto possibile la qualità del segnale nel punto cruciale del collegamento. I filtri di crossover di tutti modelli hanno un condensatore di nuovo progetto e dalla tecnica costruttiva esclusiva, che prevede l’impiego di argento, oro e olio. Questo componente, selezionato dagli ingegneri B&W, permette, di per sé, un sensibile miglioramento in qualità sonora.Il resto del patrimonio tecnologico - che rimane assolutamente valido a tutt’oggi - è quello tipico, proprietario B&W, come il midrange in Kevlar con tecnologia FST; tubo di accordo Flow Port System; cabinet Matrix e testa sferica in Marlan di esclusiva fattura per i due modelli più grandi.La 800 Series Diamond è totalmente “made in England”, compresi i mobili, che vengono lavorati nella nuova fabbrica B&W a Worthing, nel Sussex. A proposito di cabinet, questi saranno disponibili in raffinate finiture, quali rosenut, ciliegio e la magnifica, nuova laccato nero pianoforte.L’805 Diamond è forse il diffusore più richiesto che B&W abbia mai fatto. Questo straordinario modello da libreria, che si avvale ora dei servigi del tweeter in diamante, grazie alla sua convenienza, mette, per la prima volta, a disposizione di molti appassionati evoluti ed esigenti, una straordinaria qualità audio.L’804 Diamond è il più piccolo modello da pavimento della gamma, con un’impronta verticale simile all’805 Diamond posizionata su stand. The 803 Diamond might look almost as imposing as the 802 Diamond, but thanks to its smaller footprint and more traditional cabinet design, it will fit more comfortably into a home environment. Conversely, most films are originally balanced for cinemas, where a large number of speakers spread around the auditorium are used to create the surround sound field. With more surround speakers than discrete channels of information, a less precise image is created that gives an all-enveloping effect. Dipoles, rather than monopoles are better at recreating this type of sound field in the home, while using fewer speakers to do it. Dipoles do not image as precisely as monopoles, but they can make it easier to balance the whole system for a larger listening area. The DS6 S3 offers a choice of both monopole and dipole operation, so you may choose whichever type of operation best suits the conditions of the listening room, the size of audience and the type of programme being played. La serie Mini Theatre è stata progettata per rispondere contemporaneamente a più destinazioni d'uso, dall'installazione desktop con sorgenti quali il PC o l'iPod, all'uso in configurazione surround multicanale associata al subwoofer PV1, posizionabile sia a muro, sia su stand dedicato.La finitura in alluminio è disponibile in 3 varianti cromatiche: nero, bianco perla e silver. Il modello M1 è un'acustica di grande qualità ad onta di dimensioni quasi microscopiche (24.3x11.4x17.2 cm per un peso di 2.7 kg), adottando altoparlanti di alta tecnologia di grado audiophile. The M-1 has been engineered with the same design attributes and ethos as Bowers & Wilkins' larger ranges. Perhaps the most striking thing about the M-1 is the weight and strength of its curved aluminium cabinet. This is combined with a strong, glass-loaded ABS front baffle. Per venire incontro alle più ambiziose richieste in fatto di riproduzione di colonne sonore, la B&W introduce una nuova serie di diffusori ad alta efficienza direttamente derivati dalla nuova serie ‘800. Si chiamano CT800 e sono in grado di soddisfare le specifiche esigenze del mercato cinema e home theater top-class. La filosofia costruttiva e le tecnologie impiegate sono quelle già messe in campo nella serie ’800, pur con i dovuti distinguo necessari in diffusori esteticamente più compatti e ad alta efficienza (93dB spl). La famosa unità medio-alti Nautilus, per esempio, è stata completamente riprogettata ed è, nella serie CT800, una sfera in alluminio orientabile verso l’ascoltatore. In tale unità, sono presenti il leggendario Mid-Range FST da 15 cm e il Tweeter Nautilus da 3,2 cm, con un originalissimo condotto di carico compatto ed equivalente al lungo tubo presente nella serie ’800. Lo sviluppo di questa particolare unità medio-alti è stata frutto di lunghi studi e ricerche in casa B&W, tesi anche ad aumentare notevolmente l’efficienza globale del sistema, senza perdere, però, mai di vista la qualità nella riproduzione che è il basamento cardine della filosofia del costruttore inglese.
